Scope note
Use to describe camera shutters that are situated near the plane of focus, rather than coincident with the lens. Focal-plane shutters are usually a type of dual-curtain or roller-blind device made of cloth or metal that can form openings of various sizes that correspond to exposure times. The curtains are held in tension until the moment of exposure, when the slit is pulled across the film, exposing it to light.
